Overview
Chartered Legal Executive / Solicitor (1-3 PQE)
Fixed-term contract (maternity cover)
Cardiff (hybrid working)
Salary: Competitive and dependent on experience
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Chartered Legal Executive or Solicitor (1-3 PQE) to join a leading Top 100 law firm within its well-regarded military department, based in centrally located Cardiff offices with flexible hybrid working. This opportunity is on a fixed term contract basis for 9 months.
The team is recognised for representing serving and former military personnel who bring claims against the Ministry of Defence where failures have resulted in illness or avoidable injury. The department advises across a broad range of military-related personal injury matters, including military deafness, cold injuries and heat-related claims.
The successful candidate will join a busy claimant litigation team and will be responsible for managing a litigated caseload of multi-track personal injury claims, including industrial disease, employer’s and public liability, occupiers’ liability, product liability and RTA claims. You will run files from preaction through to settlement or trial, ensuring compliance with the CPR and relevant preaction protocols.
The role will involve taking initial instructions, assessing liability, causation and quantum, developing case strategy, drafting pleadings and witness evidence, preparing schedules of loss, instructing medical and non-medical experts, liaising with counsel, and progressing matters through case management conferences and interlocutory stages. You will also be involved in disclosure, costs management, ADR and settlement negotiations, including Part 36 offers.
The ideal candidate will have experience of claimant litigation and be confident managing their own caseload with minimal supervision. Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and a commitment to delivering excellent client care are essential. Previous experience handling multi-track personal injury claims is required; experience in military or industrial disease work would be advantageous but is not essential.
In return, the firm offers the opportunity to work with a highly ranked specialist team on complex and meaningful work within a supportive and collegiate environment. A competitive salary and benefits package is available, along with genuine flexibility and hybrid working.
